Meals on Wheels
About Meals on Wheels: 50 Years of Nourishing the Community
For over five decades, Meals on Wheels has been a steadfast presence in the Ballyroan area, extending its reach to parts of Rathfarnham, Knocklyon, and Templeogue. Our mission is to provide nutritious meals to individuals facing challenges that prevent them from cooking for themselves, allowing them to maintain their independence at home.
Accessing Our Service: Referral Process
To access the Meals on Wheels service, individuals must secure a referral from a GP, Public Health Nurse, or Hospital Social Services. This referral process ensures that our assistance is directed to those who genuinely require support.
Volunteer-Powered Operations: Serving Monday to Friday
Our dedicated volunteers play a pivotal role in the success of Meals on Wheels. Their commitment goes beyond delivering meals; they make a positive impact on the lives of our clients and their families. Our volunteers prepare fresh meals from Tuesday to Friday with Ready-Made Meal deliveries on Mondays.

- Coordinators' Role
The day-to-day operations of Meals on Wheels are expertly managed by our two part-time Meals on Wheels Coordinators. They oversee the scheduling of kitchen and driver volunteers, ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Referral Management
Coordinators collaborate with relevant organizations, accepting referrals and contacting family members to assess needs. Eligible individuals are added to our client list, ensuring assistance is directed to those who need it most.
- Quality Assurance: HACCP Guidelines
Our Coordinators are responsible for sourcing high-quality ingredients, maintaining the nutritional standards of our meals. They adhere to the HACCP guidelines set by the HSE, ensuring food safety and hygiene. Rigorous record-keeping ensures compliance with HSE inspection requirements.
- Join Our Community: Volunteer Opportunities
We deeply appreciate the hard work of our volunteers and are constantly seeking additional support. If you share our commitment to making a positive impact, consider joining Meals on Wheels and contribute to the well-being of those who rely on our essential service.
